From a publisher’s perspective, the old saying ‘never judge a book by its cover’, doesn’t exactly ring true. From an industry stance, a good book cover plays a critical role in sparking audience interest, generating pick-up appeal and ultimately driving the desire to purchase. Getting it right is a delicate balance between strategic intent and creative brilliance.
DESIGN IMPACT
My process aims to simply and effectively uncover the uniqueness of the story, and then bring it to life with the thoughtfulness, imagination and flair it deserves. It’s about gaining a deeper understanding of the story and the author’s intent, establishing why it’s different from everything else in the marketplace and packaging that uniqueness in a way which connects with audiences. Below are five key factors every book cover should consider.
1. Intrigue: Does it offer an insight or provoke curiosity into the story itself?
2. Expression: Does it reflect the overall tone, mood and spirit of the book?
3. Connection: Does it resonate and connect with your target audience?

5. Wow Factor: Does it make people want to immediately pick up the book and find out more?
